Our Health Journey: Nutrition Response Testing

Casey waiting to get tested

Nutrition Response Testing has been one of the things that has been so important on our health journey. It was our first new “tool” in our health toolbox and over the years it has helped us decipher where to start. Happy Reading!

What is nutrition response testing (NRT)?

Nutrition Response Testing comes out of applied kinesiology and is an analysis of the function of your body’s organs through muscle testing, neurological reflex testing, and acupuncture points. From this personal analysis, specific nutritional supplements and dietary recommendations can be made to aid in health. Fundamental to NRT is the concept that a symptom is likely caused by a body imbalance and once that is treated, the symptom will disappear. In our experience, it is excellent at diagnosing problems when you don’t have a clue about where to start.

Getting tested

Our Initial Experience

I first went to a chiropractor who did NRT back in 2012. I didn’t feel well on a regular basis and Western Medicine had failed me many times in trying to find out why. My main complaint was asthma. I have had it since childhood and been on different medicine for it but I wanted to try and figure out any way I could to prevent it within my control. It was maddening because after eating at seemingly random times, I would immediately get an attack. I could not narrow it down to which foods caused it. I knew about some pet and plant allergies but I could never figure out what foods to avoid.

My first appointment was with a chiropractor in Fresno named Dr. Peart. He runs a natural health clinic and I can’t say enough good things about him! The first appointment he had me fill out a detailed form and spent about an hour to hour and a half testing me. One of my greatest passions in life is trying out alternative health modalities so I was very impressed and wowed during the first appointment! While I was laying down, he did a series of reflex tests and then began to use my arm to muscle test. Using acupuncture points that correspond to different organs, the muscles respond weak or strong. This process is a little hard to explain through writing so for specifics I’m sure there is a YouTube video of a person getting muscle tested! He then tests various things that can make the body weak like a variety of chemicals, metals, parasites, bacteria, viruses, yeasts, and food allergies. These are contained in small vials and you hold onto them and your muscles will respond weak when it is something that you have a problem with. If this sounds crazy and weird I am with you! The first time I got tested I didn’t understand what this “magic” was!

After finding out potential weaknesses, the body and specific organs that are affected are tested against nutritional supplements that might help solve the imbalance. This part is incredible to me every time I get tested. Supplements and the exact dosages are determined. You really have to try it to believe it.

At my first visit, I got a key piece of information that changed my entire health. My body showed an allergy to corn among other things. This was huge for me. I began to avoid corn, take enzymes and other supplements that he recommended and that my body tested strong on and I saw dramatic results within a week. I was so shocked and impressed with the results that I made an appointment for Casey the next week! His story is similar to mine in that problems he had dealt with for years with no answers began to improve with the body specific knowledge that NRT provided. If you have a health problem that no one has been able to help you with, I highly recommend this healing modality. After having used it and Standard Process supplements for eleven years, I can attest to it working for both us and our kids. The wisdom I’ve learned about my own body and herbs that help specific problems has been invaluable to me and to Casey. I would say that once I started going for a year, I started to learn things about my body that helped me daily in my health journey.

The Cost

I believe the initial appointment is around $120 plus the cost of supplements. After that, a recheck appointment is around $50 I believe. My NRT practioner uses Standard Process supplements and having used their supplements and seen results for over ten years, I am convinced of their quality.

The downside

I would say the biggest downside is the cost. Most alternative health care isn’t covered by insurance (no shock there!) and it can add up. Especially with the cost of supplements because good quality herbs and vitamins are expensive. I was willing to pay for it because once I started to realize what feeling good felt like, I was ADDICTED. I experienced so many health breakthroughs when I took the supplements consistently and got rechecked at the right amount of time. That being said, it can be a large investment financially.

Like a lot of alternative medicine, a quick google search will lead you find some who really don’t believe muscle testing/Nutrition Response Testing is a legitimate way to diagnose anything. To that I would simply say until a person has tried it for at least six months, they really should hold off on forming their opinion. But I really think that about a lot of things in life. We don’t know about things until we truly experience them for ourselves.

My Latest visit

I recently had a mild cold that led to an ear infection. I have never had an ear infection and had no idea of just how painful they can be. I have many health complications that I am trying to undo due to antibiotic use over fifteen years ago so antibiotics are not a choice for me unless it is a dire situation. I got NRT tested and within three days of taking the supplements (Golden Seal, a strong Echinacea, AllergCo, and Conjaplex), I was no longer in pain. I am so happy to have this option! I love having it as a tool for our family’s health. I hope you enjoyed reading about this resource!

Blessings to you on your journey,

Alyssa
